Signing in

One bdr account covers racing, organising and hosting. Drivers sign in through Steam. This page explains why, and what bdr does with your Steam account.

Sign in through Steam

Select Sign in in the top bar, or Sign in through Steam on any page that offers it.
On the Steam page, sign in and confirm.
Steam sends you back to bdr and you land on your dashboard.

The first time you sign in, bdr creates your account. You don't need to register separately.

Note

After you sign in, you always land on your dashboard, even if you started from a race page. Open the race again to sign up.

Why Steam

The game server identifies each driver by their SteamID, and so does every result file it writes. bdr uses your SteamID for three things:

Entering races. The server has an entry list of the drivers with a seat, keyed by SteamID. Only those drivers can join.
Matching results. When the results come in, each line is matched to an account by SteamID. That is how your laps, points and ratings reach your profile.
Past races. If you raced on a bdr server before you had an account, your results are already stored under your SteamID. When you sign in through Steam for the first time, they become part of your account. In that case your display name starts as the name from those results.

What bdr receives from Steam

bdr receives your public SteamID. If the platform also reads your public Steam profile, it takes:

Item	How it is used
Persona name	Your starting display name, set only the first time you sign in. After that, you choose your display name.
Avatar	Your picture. It is updated each time you sign in.
Country	Your starting country, set only the first time you sign in.

bdr never receives your Steam password. Other users can't see your SteamID: it is visible only to you, the stewards and the platform admins.

You can change your display name and country on Your account.

Signing in by email

Some bdr installations also offer an email link. If yours does, select No Steam account? Sign in with an email link under the Steam button, enter your address and select Email me a link. Open the link from the email to sign in.

Warning

An account created by email has no SteamID, so you can't sign up for races with it. Sign in through Steam signs you in to a separate Steam account; it does not add Steam to your email account.

Signing out

Select the sign-out icon at the far right of the top bar.

If sign-in fails

If you see "Steam sign-in could not be verified. Please try again.", Steam did not confirm your sign-in. Start again from Sign in through Steam.

Select Sign in in the top bar, or Sign in through Steam on any page that offers it.
