Getting started

What bdr is, and the first steps for drivers and for organisers.

bdr is a sim racing platform for communities. Communities run races on their own servers; bdr handles the calendar, signups, splits, results, ratings and stewarding. This page shows the first steps for drivers and for organisers.

How it works

Communities publish seasons and one-off events. Each race appears in one shared race calendar.
You sign up for a race with the car you want to drive. When signups close, the field is split by ELO into groups of similar pace.
The community's server lets in only the drivers who have a seat. When the race ends, the server uploads the results.
Results update your ELO (pace) and Safety Rating (clean driving). You keep one rating across every community that hosts on bdr.

Note

A community is either a Ranked host or an Unranked host. Races run by an unranked host show results, but they do not change anyone's ELO or Safety Rating. New communities start as unranked. See Ratings.

If you want to race

Sign in through Steam. Your SteamID links you to your entry on the game server and to your results. See Signing in.
Find a race. On your dashboard, select Find a race. The Open to you list shows only races you are eligible for. See The race calendar.
Sign up. On the race page, choose your car and select Sign up. See A race page.
Join the server. When signups close, the race page shows your split, your car number and the server password.
Check your results. Results show on the race page shortly after the chequered flag. Your rating updates on your dashboard.

If something went wrong on track, you can report it after the race. See Reports.

If you want to organise

Sign in, then select Organise in the top bar.
Fill in Start a community (name, URL slug, description) and select Create.
Set up your community. Add your machine and game servers, then create a season with its series, or create a single event. Use these topics:
Select Generate races, then Publish season. From then on, bdr runs each race on schedule: it opens and closes signups, splits the field, assigns your servers and collects the results.
